Acupuncture is an ancient healing system that was developed in China thousand years ago. Modern acupuncturists use a series of tools like fine needles, massage, cupping, and gua sha to restore the natural flow of qi.

How It Works

Acupuncture is based on the concept of Qi or life force that circulate in energetic pathways called meridians. An ancient text states " Human beings are born [because of] the accumulation of Qi. When it accumulates there is life. When it dissipates there is death... There is one Qi that connects and pervades everything in the world."

Qi travels within the body and organs. 12 major Qi channels are connected to our main organs: Heart and Small Intestine, Liver and Gallbladder, Lung and Large Intestine, Spleen and Stomach, and Kidney and Urinary Bladder. Each organ is supported by its own Qi, when Qi gets disrupted or blocked can affect the physical organ's well-being and put the all system out of balance.

The acupuncture objective is to mobilize blocked Qi by inserting very fine sterilized disposable acupuncture needles into meridians (the channels of energy) and stimulate the body’s healing response.

Acupuncture needles are inserted in specific points of the body called acupoints and left in place for approximately 30 minutes, so that a circuit of energy will be created to remove any blockage and restore natural balance/homeostasis. Other techniques such as cupping, moxibustion acupressure, gua sha, massage and herbal remedies are commonly used in combination with acupuncture to maximize the efficacy of the treatment.
